My intention as an artist is to create a unique interpretation of elements of the world around me, structured and composed in such a way so as the viewer is drawn into the work and taken on an exciting journey of discovery.
Primarily I am a painter. However, much of my work is sculptural in the way the paint is applied and built up on the canvas. The sculptural aspect of many of my paintings is further enhanced by the unconventional method of mounting the canvas so it appears to float within the frame.
I enjoy exploring the world and reinterpreting it in a visually new, exciting and, hopefully, thought provoking way. As the viewer is pushed and pulled, drawn backwards and forwards over the surface and into the artwork, questions may be raised. Why is the structure that shape? Was it put there or did it just appear? Is it from the past or is a prediction? Is it real or imagination?
Much of the world I create is somewhat familiar as I am heavily influenced by the natural world around me. However, I like to play with heightened colour, shadow and light, texture, through to manipulating angles and perspective and the layering of visual planes to create an almost unreal reality. I dissect, examine, interpret and try and capture the essence of what I see.
